be vigilant! How to establish a healthy defense line when the meningococcal virus quietly invades?
Release time: 2024-07-26
In the journey of health, we constantly face various potential threats, and the meningococcal virus is undoubtedly one of the "invisible enemies" that requires us to be highly vigilant. Today, let's delve into this mysterious and dangerous virus and be fully prepared to protect our health.
1. The true appearance of the Lushan meningococcal virus
Cerebrospinal meningitis virus, also known as epidemic meningitis virus, is mainly caused by Neisseria meningitidis. This type of bacteria has multiple bacterial communities, typically including groups A, B, C, Y, and W135. Neisseria meningitidis has weak resistance to the external environment and is highly prone to autolysis and death in vitro. However, it can firmly establish itself in the human nasopharynx, and once the conditions are suitable, it can cause serious diseases.
2. The transmission routes and characteristics of meningococcal virus
The meningococcal virus is mainly transmitted through respiratory droplets. When patients cough, sneeze, or speak loudly, droplets containing bacteria will enter the air. If people around them inhale these droplets, they may be infected. This mode of transmission is rapid and widespread, especially in densely populated and poorly ventilated areas such as classrooms, dormitories, subway cars, etc., with extremely high transmission risks.
For example, in a classroom at school, if a meningococcal patient is not detected and isolated in a timely manner, it may lead to multiple classmates being infected in a short period of time. In addition, close contact transmission is also one of the transmission routes of meningococcal virus. Direct contact with patients' nasopharyngeal secretions or indirect contact with items contaminated by these secretions, such as towels, tableware, toys, etc., may make them susceptible.
3. Symptoms of meningococcal virus infection
The symptoms of meningococcal virus infection are usually severe and the condition develops rapidly. In the early stages of infection, patients often experience symptoms similar to a cold, such as fever, headache, fatigue, sore throat, cough, etc. These symptoms may not be very obvious and can easily be mistaken for a common cold or flu. However, as the condition worsens, the symptoms will gradually worsen.
The patient may have a persistent high fever, with a body temperature exceeding 39 ℃, accompanied by severe headaches, and the degree of pain may be unbearable. Vomiting is also a common symptom, and patients may vomit frequently, sometimes even in the form of jets. In addition, neck stiffness may occur, which means that the neck is stiff and difficult to bend. This is caused by inflammation and stimulation of the meninges.
As the condition progresses, patients may experience neurological symptoms such as seizures and coma. In severe cases, it may also lead to the formation of brain herniation, compressing brain tissue and endangering life. It is worth mentioning that patients of different age groups may have different symptoms. The symptoms of pediatric patients may be relatively atypical, while the physical resistance of the elderly and infants is often weaker, leading to more severe and rapid disease progression.
